The Shortest Day with AlteredPages.com

The Shortest Day~Susan Cooper
And so the Shortest Day came and the year died
And everywhere down the centuries of the snow-white world
Came people singing, dancing,
To drive the dark away.
They lighted candles in the winter trees;
They hung their homes with evergreen;
They burned beseeching fires all night long
To keep the year alive.
And when the new year's sunshine blazed awake
They shouted, revelling.
Through all the frosty ages you can hear them
Echoing behind us - listen!
All the long echoes, sing the same delight,
This Shortest Day,
As promise wakens in the sleeping land:
They carol, feast, give thanks,
And dearly love their friends,
And hope for peace.
And now so do we, here, now,
This year and every year.

Happy Friday! Today is not only the day of the end of the world but also the shortest day of the year--Happy Yule. In celebration of the coming of winter I have created this art tile that I've added to my work space for inspiration--hop on over to the Altered Pages Blog to check it out!

A Very Merry Holiday Steampunk Blog Hop | Holiday Cards

Welcome to my Very Merry Holiday Steampunk Blog hop!! I have collected a talented group of crafters and artists who all share a love for all things Steampunk! We are celebrating Winter Holidays Steampunk style! I can't wait to see what everyone has brought to the hop! So let's get started!!!
I chose to create a few holiday cards that could also be little pieces of art for the winter. I started with these beautiful FREE steampunk snowflake papers created by co-blog hopper Amanda for her online digi store AJs Digi Shoppe--available here.

I created the definition images below and printed them on top of the pink snowflake paper. I created an embossed strip with a Provocraft gears emboss folder and Stormy Sky Distressed Ink. I added Maya Mist Pearl to the Purple, ripped the edge  and created a 3×4¼" base to build my metal gear and washer snowflake. I added bling to the focus snowflake and created two more smaller flakes for the card. The base and the mat as well as the definition were all edged in Stormy Sky. You can download the definitions to use in your own art by right clicking on the definition and saving it to the file folder of your choice on your computer.

I hope you enjoy my projects. Please hop over and check out the other participants projects and leave them some love. Several are offering giveaways as well! Have a wonderful holiday and a joyous New Year! I will be back in the new year with a whole new schedule of blog hops! See you soon!

Weekly Challenge | All About Christmas & a New Release

It's time for a new release and a new challenge with Digital Delights by Louby Loo! This week at Delightful Challenges our challenge is All About Christmas to go with this fun new release. I got to work with Eskimo Emily. I love this stamp! When I was about 5 years old I had a fuzzy coat with a hood *similar* to this one. Mine was not purple--it was brown--but since today's challenge was all about Christmas and at OUR house we've been working with purple and green for our decorations, I just knew I wanted a non-traditional colored Christmas Card....The purple and green plaid in the Totally Tartan Paper Pack has been screaming at me since I got it and I knew it would be perfect to use on this card!! I hope you enjoy my project! Thank you for looking!

For this card

Digital Paper : Totally Tartan Paper Pack
Card Stock : Bazzill Basics

We will pin your ornament to our New 12 Days of Upcycled Ornaments Pin Board!!

Leslie-Rahye bringing you another ornament that I worked on this week. I have been a hoarder of missing puzzle pieces [kinda like Amanda and her bottle caps, only different]. I love these projects for creating simple holiday ornaments.

For my ornament you need :
Puzzle pieces
glue & glitter & buttons
paint,  mists and stamps
hemp string
hole punch

I painted and misted my puzzle pieces green or white depending on if it was going to be a snowflake or a wreath. I stamped some visual textures with swirls. I then glued my pieces into snowflake or a wreath shape. Glitter and buttons of course enhanced the snowflake and became berries for the wreath.  I added a hemp hanger to add my upcycled ornament to my tree!

Don't forget to enter and share YOUR upcycled ornaments and to check back each day for another upcycled ornament idea! Thank you for looking!

Five Years of Magic | Celebrating Roni's Anniversary

Art is the last form of magic that exists!

I am honored to be invited to celebrate my teammate and blog compadre's 5th Blogging Anniversary today!! A pioneer in collage and altered art,  Roni sent each of us a tin to alter in honor of this milestone. I know how much she loves steampunk and so I wanted to make her a steampunk commemorative keepsake for her time blogging at Ink Stains. I transformed my little tin into a mini album--Five Years of Magic!  The inside has a fold out album on old book paper...one side is collage stamped with a variety of steampunk images from Viva Las VegaStamps! and the reverse has the letters spelling out the word CELEBRATE! Congratulations Roni on this momentous occassion! Thank you for making me a part of your celebration! I hope you enjoy the art I made for you! celebrating Roni's Bloggiversary!!

Weekly Challenge | Red & Green

It's time for a new challenge with Digital Delights by Louby Loo! This week at Delightful Challenges our challenge is Red & Green. In case you missed it, moose and reindeer are probably one of my favorite all time images. I collect them and of course that spills over into my crafting. I know I have enough reindeer ornaments to do the entire 6' tree--but since I love variety on the tree the antlered friends are left to just dominate! When Wendy designed Molly Moose I squealed out loud! She is too cute and needed to be colored for some cards. For today's challenge I also incorporate her recent paper release Totally Tartan to complete my card! I hope you like my project! Thank you for looking!

 For this card
Digital Stamps : Molly Moose
Card Stock : Bazzill Basics
Markers : BIC Mark-its
Accessories : Buttons Galore, Queen & Co Bakers Twine. foam tape
