Delightful Thursday | Pressie Josh Birthday Card

It's Delightful Thursday and the Digital Delights design team is sharing inspiration on the Digital Delights Blog today!

Today I'm coloring the delightful Pressie Josh! I love all of the "Pressie" series of images in the store but Pressie Josh is my favorite to color. Yesterday was my son's birthday and so I made this card for him! I've been trying some new coloring techniques and today you will notice I've gone back to using both my spectrum noir with my BIC Mark-its. For me they produced the perfect greens in the bow and hat and shirt. Thank you for stopping by today! I hope you enjoyed my card.

Steampunk Love

Happy Tuesday everyone!Today on the Cheery Lynn Blog I share a Steampunk Valentine using the Gears Mesh as an insert in the Mirror Mirror Doily Frame. I cut the center of my doily out with the thin oval die provided and then fit my gears behind it. Both the Gear Mesh and the Wings were cut out of black card stock and sponged with gold chalk powder to produce the shimmer. The focal heart was simply layered with the large Two of Hearts in the back, the wings and then the smaller Heart 'n Gears die cut.

Love Tag

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today on the Cheery Lynn Blog I share a valentine tag. I began by diecutting the snowflake mesh border out of acetate to use as a template. I spray-misted with opaque white over the top of kraft card to create the "texture" on the background. Next I stamped a grid pattern over the kraft tag and distressed and inked the edges with pink.]

For the ruffle on the bottom of the tag, I adhered a liquid glue to the back of the kraft tag and attached my crumpled Ankara Lace Border to the edge. A bit of Ankara Lace also peeks out of the side of the tag where the kraft  is ripped.

To finish off the tag, the snowflake doily was layered with the Two of Hearts and some scrolling bling. Love and You were cut and added to the bottom of the tag.

I Spy a Birthday!

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today I am sharing on the Cheery Lynn Blog a few more dies from the recent release. The I Spy binoculars are great! They are perfect for layouts involving sightseeing and hunting/target shooting themes. For a cheeky birthday card, they are great for spying a milestone birthday--"Lordy, lordy look who's 40!" I just couldn't resist. The binoculars are detailed with some pan pastel and glossy accents to bring out the features of the die cut. The Mirror Mirror Doily Frame is perfect to create a mirror to look into for this card. I cut it out of a beautifully colored coffee bag that I upcycled. To further accent the theme of time, I added the Gear Mesh to imply clock gears...as time passes.

Le Pot de Papillon

Good morning! Today on the Altered Arts Magazine blog I am sharing an altered coaster : Le Pot de Papillonthe butterfly jar! As an artist one of my favorite things to do is to upcycle cardboard--coasters from restaurants are perfect! Many are about the size of a fat book (4×4") and make wonderful substrates for small art.

I covered this coaster with 2 layers of Kraft colored Tissue Stock from Canvas Corp using Nori Perfect Paste as my adhesive. I also used the Nori Perfect Paste to adhere the trimmed "La Fleur" mason jar from the Retro Cafe Art Gallery collage sheet.

I created handmade flowers with the soft subtle Color Wash card stock from Pink Paislee and adhered them to the side of the jar image. I completed the composition by posing mini butterflies in the jar and upon a few flowers. Knotted Wood ink from Prima Marketing Inc. was edged around the coaster to darken the edge a bit.

leslierahye's very fall steampunk blog hop

Happy Fall Y'all!! Welcome to my Very Fall Steampunk Blog Hop! I am celebrating the change of seasons from summer to fall with my favorite steampunk friends!! I hope you enjoy our projects!!
I LOVE fall--the weather, school activities, nature, colors. It's just amazing how beautiful the world becomes with all the colors and the crisp nip of the morning air. Usually being in Texas our seasons are a combination of heat, more heat, less heat, ice--but THIS year we have been very fortunate to have amazing fall weather and I'm loving it!!
For my household fall means BUSY schedules with school, scouting, craft shows, sports and 4H. My message center stays loaded with fliers and announcements. Some extra steampunky magnets to hold everything is definitely welcome!  I created these fun magnets with my favorite ArtEcoBoard, Prima Craftsman paper, Junkyard Trinkets, Maya Road metal flowers and a variety of washers from the hardware store!
I find that with all these busy schedules, my steampunk magnets help keep me organized and like the stamp on my steampunky artist trading card says, if i "map out a course of action and follow it to an end" we come out the other side of Fall with our sanity intact!
Thank you for stopping by!! I hope you enjoy my projects that help me with the changing of the season! Be sure to check out the rest of the creations from my amazingly crafty friends!!

Paper Bead Bracelet with Prima and Sakura

Today I bring to you a fun and easy jewelry project that you can make with remnant pieces of scrapbook paper, your Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer, some matching ink, some large-holed accent beads, and some hemp twine.  I hope you enjoy my project.
I love paper! Love it! I will buy at least 2 sheets of a particular pattern when I'm scrapbook paper shopping [or even when I'm not shopping for paper and it just reaches out and grabs me]. If it's particularly choice I will often buy 6 or more sheets so I can have it around me for several projects. As I work on the projects I will hoard the scraps--something I would not normally do to "plain old" paper.
This new Mechanic paper from the new Craftsman Collection from Prima I just can't get enough of. I love the deep blues and red-rusts in it and find myself holding on to the scraps. This paper would be perfect for a simple bracelet that could work for both a guy or a girl!

The method

for this project you will need
Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer
Hemp Twine
large holed beads
13-15 paper strips cut 1"×5"
1 paper strip cut ¾"×5"
matching ink
bamboo skewer for rolling paper
brush and Emory  board

I roll the strips on the bamboo skewer--creating a large hole for stringing. I glue the flap closed with the lacquer and then brush on a thin coat of lacquer to create a shiny finish to the bead.
Once all the beads are dried, I sand the ends to even up the paper and ink them to remove the harsh white edge.
I start with 2 yards of hemp. I fold it in half, knot a small loop on the fold and thread a large hold bead with both strings. When I get near to the loop I take both ends of the hemp and run the thread back through the hole the same direction--it creates the thread pattern on the outside to the bead AND keeps the bead from slipping through the knot. Stiffening the ends of the string with Crystal Lacquer also helps in the threading process.
After 3 large holed beads, I added on the paper beads threading on string through the bead left to right and the other string right to left--so that the strings cross in the bead and the ends come out either end of the hole. The rest of the paper beads are attached in the same manner.
After all the paper beads are added to get the desired length, the large holed beads are added again to match the beginning of the bracelet. Finally the ¾" bead is added as before and then knots are created at each opening and the ends are then coated with lacquer and tucked back into the holes.
