All Things Altered Blog Hop | The World According to ME Altered Book

Welcome to the last stop on the All Things Altered Blog Hop with the Sakura Hobby Crafts design team. If you happened here by coincidence, find the links to the other stops at the end of this post. If you came here from Amanda's blog then you are in the right spot!
For my project I worked on the cover of my newest altered adventure. Recently I began an altered book to use mixed media to work through my feelings about stuff going on around me--a if I were in charge of the world I'd do it THIS way kind of thing!
Having a space to art and journal about the injustices, the drama and the trauma helps me to not get bogged down and lose site of what's important in my life--my family.

The Process--

This is layered over the actual cover of the book with book paper, antique atlas pages, Sakura, Terri Sproul Mixers, more paper and more paper☺and some fun chipboard letters that were altered with book paper and more mixers!  I love how the cover turned out so far.*

close up of the the layers...you can see the text
of the paper showing through the mixers.
powdered mixers were dry-brushed over
various areas of the book--this looks like
a face ! ♥
I printed "The World according to..." with my ink jet printer onto the book paer
using Miracle Tape available at Viva las Vegastamps!
Viva Las Vegastamps also carries the entire
collection of Terri Sproul Mixers & Sakura Crystal Lacquer

*There will be more lumpiness added to the cover and fibers and such to the spine when I finish altering all the pages...but since I'm still working on the pages in the book I wanted to keep the embellishing low-profile for now.

Continue on...

Be sure to check out all the links, leave comments and enter for a chance to win a bottle of lacquer and a package of 3 mixers!  There will be one winner--post on the Sakura Blog and let us know which project was YOUR favorite--the winner will be announced in Monday the 30th.

When is? Let me count the days!

Today on the Viva Las Vegastamps! Blog I share with you how I quiet that group of my family that asks nearly daily "When is" by crafting a revolving count down calendar that can be used for any occasion!

I've seen these count down calendars all over the net and they're super easy to make and with the vast array of Viva Las Vegastamps! you can keep up with every season!!

And now for a count down

You can count down to ANYTHING. I made a count down to Santa's arrival and one to the first day of school. Change the stamps and papers/backgrounds to match your countdown. Use a dry erase marker to write on the glass as your number changes.

Thank you for looking! I hope you enjoyed my projects as I try to quiet the "when is" faction in my life! ~leslierahye

Nicolettes's Christmas in July Blog Hop | Day 2

Happy Sunday!! Today I am delighted to be hopping along with Nicolette and friends as we celebrate the beginning of holiday crafting with her Christmas in July Blog Hop!

If you happened upon my blog on in the middle of the hop and would like to start at the top, Go to Nicolette's blog Beyond Scrapin. If you came from April's Blog Curls & Grins then you are in the right place!

Initially I was going to craft for you a card for Day 2 of the hop but I have been TOTALLY in love with these little felties that I have made!!! It started with yesterday's project...the ornament yesterday was totally a last minute addition to my project and was created with such ease and success that my brain immediately went to making little felt shapes.

Felted Holiday Friends

I began these little felt friends by making simple shapes of spheres and cones and then embellished them to create Santa, a snowman and a Christmas tree. The tree is about 2" tall--shorter than a AA battery! They are made mostly of roving with a little bit of processed felt added in.

Continue on...

I LOVE these sweet little felties and am now addicted. I will be creating some more cuties for my family. My daughter already has a list going that includes Ms. Claus and Rudolph! Thank you for looking! I hope you enjoyed my project. The next hop on the stop is Jackie at Playing with Paper. Hop on over and check out her fabulous creation.

Nicolette's Christmas in July Blog Hop | Day 1

Happy Saturday!!

I am one of those crafters that starts working on Christmas in July so that I can have collected enough handmade items for gifts for my friends and family as well as new ornaments for our tree and beautiful "wrappings" for my presents. This would not be feasible if I started in November. I hope you enjoy my project today!

Ornament Gift Bag

For Day 1 of the blog hop I wanted to create an ornament for my tree. This piece of felting not only serves as an ornament but also as a little 2½×3" gift bag for the tree. I felted a small spruce tree forest on my bag with white and green roving. Next I stitched the felted front to a felt backing with a blanket stitch and added a cord. For a final touch I needle felted Christmas Ball to hang from the handle of the ornament gift bag.

needle-felted ornament ball.

My Mommie always told me the best presents are the smallest... she may be right! Thank you for looking! I hope you enjoyed my project. The next hop on the stop is Jackie at Playing with Paper. Hop on over and check out her fabulous creation. Come back tomorrow when I will feature another Christmas in July project for Day 2 of Nicolette's Christmas in July Blog Hop!

Tic-Tac-Turtle with Sakura Hobby Crafts

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer! It's hard to believe that it's already July! This is the time of the year I start thinking about handmade presents for my friends and family for the holiday gift giving season.
We have "unplugged" nights in our family where we spend it away from our electronic devices and instead read books--the old-fashioned paper kind--and play games or art. Sometimes we find that the simple games are the most timeless. When I found this shadow box at the Dollar Store I knew I wanted to make it into a tic-tac-toe game...and these bottle caps from The Bottle Cap Company are the perfect game pieces for this whimsical turtle game. Hop on over to the Crystal Lacquer Blog to check out my Tic-Tac-Turtle Tutorial!
