Pink Snowflakes!

Happy Tuesday everyone!Today on the Cheery Lynn Blog I am once again playing along with this weeks challenge--Nontraditional Christmas Colors! I love using pink and lime green for holiday decorations. I have been creating these snowflakes for my tree and decided to share one with you.
I began by cutting several white card stock Royal Scandinavian Doilies--with solid centers.

I misted them with pink and Perfect Pearl Mists. I dried them with the heat tool and then fold up my doily...In half both directions perpendicular to the edges of the square. Next I fold the diagonally both directions. I cut to the center from one side and re-creased each fold to look like the doilies below.

I lined up the doilies so that the corners line up on the top and bottom of my doily. I added a third doily to the back--lining up the top and bottom point.

Finally I cut a snowflake and misted it with Perfect Pearls. I added crystals and glued the snowflake to the top of the folded doilies. A string through the top makes the snowflake able to be hung on the tree.

Joyful Tag

Happy Tuesday everyone! On the Cheery Lynn blog today I shared a tag to go along with this weeks challenge! I LOVE tags and the new Alpine Flourish Doily makes the perfect tag! I began by cutting a kraft tag to go behind my die cut. I then layered the Alpine Flourish Die onto the tag with 3 dimensional glue dots so that it would have a bit of dimension.

Next I added my poinsettias that I had created using the strip die. Once cut from red card stock, I shape them with a stylus on a foam pad. I then stack them, little one on the top and the next smallest below it. I add little yellow prills for the center. Love the look here.

I cut the Joy to the World Sentiment from the wreath set in both chocolate and red. I layer them and wipe a layer of lacquer over the top.
To adhere to my tag I coat the entire solid are with lacquer and place my sentiment in the center. The twiggies are cut from the same brown and green using the wreath strip. They are layered under the poinsettias. The flowers are attached last and trims are run through a hole I punched in the tag.

November Monthly Member Blog Hop | BRAINZ

Good Morning everyone! I've missed all of my Smeared Ink companions. I was participating in the 31days of Halloween Hop as a Wicked Blogger and then I just disappeared. No note...nothing. I do apologize for that but here is what happened.
My son sustained a 3rd concussion. If' you've been following me long you know about 2 years ago we had a very rough year with my son...he sustained 2 concussions within 6 months of each other and had a very difficult time coming back from them. I've arted and written about that experience here. Since then I've become an advocate for parents dealing with this issue and my door is ALWAYS open to anyone having to go through concussions with their kids.
Then there is my kid--age 14...he's a spazz...I love him...he now looms at 6'½" and is not aware of his height. He was at the UIL Area Finals with my husband for the marching band. They rode charter buses down to the even rather than the old "yellow dogs" and he was not aware that the cubbies above the seats were so close. He stood up quick and knocked his head pretty hard. After several excuses by ALL of us as to why he had a headache, why he was dizzy, why he was nauseous...it became apparent that he had a 3rd concussion. We immediately went into complete cognitive rest--that means NO NO NO electronics, no computers, no phone, no videos, no tv...no no no...No Band, No shop, no noise...no no no. Poor kid. He wanted to so to be better he started giving us less than accurate symptom levels when we'd do the symptom test on him in hopes of getting to get into action sooner. It's always one step forward and three back with this. Today, we are on day 4 of staying at home with complete cognitive rest as we over did on Friday when he had said he was much better.
How this applies to the theme of Transparency....I wish the skull [a Smeared Ink digi image printed on a transparency] was transparent so we could look inside his brain and see where the hurt is and fix it. A concussion occurs when the brain giggles around inside the skull [which seems very hard and opaque] and it hits the sides of the skull. The brain is injured. Something so HARD can be so delicate. To look inside and take away the fear and the depression and the anxiety and the fogginess and the ache and the dizziness...I wish for that. I would give anything to make it better for him--for any dealing with concussions. In retrospect I supposed my airing my personal life today also makes ME transparent. I hope this brings a bit of awareness to those who come in contact with people dealing with concussions...just because their injury is NOT transparent--they're not bleeding or broken or obviously hurt--they are still injured...it's a traumatic brain injury, it's real, it's serious.

Thankful for Those Who Have Served Blog Hop 2014

Good Morning everyone and Happy Veterans Day to those celebrating in the states. This is the day that we honor and remember our veterans. It's a solemn day as we recall the loved ones that are no longer with us who gave their lives. It's a day of celebration as we honor those still with us who returned.
In the past I've shared my grandfather's with you. For me, this is what this day is about...remembering them...their service...their sacrifices to their families. We are the Land of the Free BECAUSE of the Brave...brave men like these.

I Spy a Birthday!

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today I am sharing on the Cheery Lynn Blog a few more dies from the recent release. The I Spy binoculars are great! They are perfect for layouts involving sightseeing and hunting/target shooting themes. For a cheeky birthday card, they are great for spying a milestone birthday--"Lordy, lordy look who's 40!" I just couldn't resist. The binoculars are detailed with some pan pastel and glossy accents to bring out the features of the die cut. The Mirror Mirror Doily Frame is perfect to create a mirror to look into for this card. I cut it out of a beautifully colored coffee bag that I upcycled. To further accent the theme of time, I added the Gear Mesh to imply clock gears...as time passes.
