Weekly Challenge | 3's a Charm

Independence Day ATCs with Want2Scrap & Sakura

With Flag Day and Independence Day quickly approaching, I knew I wanted to create some red-white-blue Altered Trading Cards using the Want-2-Scrap items that we were working with this month. My favorite line in the Want2Scrap products--besides the Dollar Bling--is all of the wonderful Mixed Media surfaces from Donna Salazar. For this project I focused on the Embellies products --canvas and chipboard ATC blanks.

 

For this project you need:

     

AlteredPages.com Collage Sheets

Sakura Hobby Crafts 3D Crystal Lacquer

Buttons, fancy fiber

Bazzill Basics Card Stock

Ranger Distressed Stain

Independence Day Crepe Paper

I began by cutting the canvas into ½" wide strips and then in half again so that they were 3½" long. I inked them with Ranger Stain in Brick Red. I dried them with the heat gun. 

I rolled the strips around a bamboo skewer and glued them closed with Sakura Hobby Crafts 3D Crystal Lacquer. Some beads were finished off by tying a piece of fancy fiber around them.

I also rolled some 3/8" strips of blue card stock into little cylinders.I used Crystal Lacquer to hold the coil closed.

Sakura Crystal Lacquer was used as the only adhesive for the entire project.

I glued the blue card stock onto the chipboard bases with Crystal Lacquer and used the stain to edge the chipboard base.

The beads were then threaded onto a piece of fancy fiber and used as embellishments for my ATCs.

For this ATC, the striped crepe paper was gathered on the red side to form a bunting shape. Images were cut out of the alteredpages.com collage sheet and layered on the background with crystal lacquer. The bunting was gathered in the corner and adhered with crystal lacquer. The beads were wrapped around the card and tied. The buttons were glued on with crystal lacquer and bling was added as a final touch.

For this ATC, the striped crepe paper was gathered on a line of crystal lacquer on the side of the card. The beads were wrapped around the ruffle and tied on. The buttons and collage sheet cutout were adhered using crystal lacquer. Bling was added for a final touch.

I have been making a TON of Red-White-Blue themed projects since before memorial day and I wanted to bring you something different than a card. Today I made ribbon medallions that can be used for a variety of embellishments--from a card to a hairbow to a dress or purse or shoes!!

The Ribbon Medallion--method

1. Begin by punching a 1" circle for this size medallion out of card stock. 
2. make a running stitch [either by hand or by machine--or you can wing it if you are particularly good at gathering by hand. 
3. Gather enough ribbon to go all the way around your 1" circle. If you are using ribbon that's wider than 1" you may want a bigger base. 
4. with a hot glue gun, attach the gathered side to the perimeter of the circle and finish off the end of ribbon that shows on the top by folding under the edge and tacking with glue. 
5. Make a second ruffled circle in the same manner with a thinner ribbon--the 2nd ribbon in this example was about ½" wide.
6. Finally affix a button to the top of the gathered circles. Your medallion is now ready for a project!

Sew Many Ways to say they're special

When looking for stamps for my next project to share with you from Viva Las Vegastamps! I spotted these fantastic vintage photo-image stamps. They are stunning. I could not stop at just one or two, I needed the entire plate! They are the perfect size for Artist Trading Cards [ATCs], and the sentiments on the plate lend themselves not only to artjournaling and cardmaking, but also to memory keeping. Crafty Ribbons #6 | Anything but a card

It's time again for a Crafty Ribbons Challenge. For this challenge we are doing ANYTHING BUT A CARD and I thought it would be the PERFECT time to play with the Crafty Ribbons buttons boxes. At Crafty Ribbons the yummy buttons come with a flat white matchbox-style sliding box. This box however is so much more fun. It measures 4"×2"×1½". 

Besides being a great box for my buttons, I thought it would also make a fun "gift" box. I stacked 3 of these boxes together and covered with my favorite Bazzill Kraft Card Stock. I chose the fun Advent colors for my ribbons with the beautiful purple embossed velvet and the fun pink imprinted grosgrain. I also love the sheer silver wired ribbon and thought it would provide for a shiny accent to my big puffy bow. I decorated the "gift box" to look like a wrapped package, extending the Kraft card stock to the "drawers" of my box and to the lining of the "drawers." For a final touch I added a punched tag with a piece of 1/8" grosgrain. This would be perfect for a series of presents that go together--jewelry perhaps, beautiful hair accessories, doll items...The sky is the limit!

  

With the box that my buttons came with, I decided to cover the box with a piece of denim, edge the edges of the box with some gingham ribbon so that the denim wouldn't fray and then add ribbon accents to the "pull" and sides of the box. I added Crafty Ribbons buttons to further embellish my little button box! I love the primary colors in this set of buttons and wanted the box to reflect what would be contained inside!

Crafty Ribbons Challenge #3 |BOO-tiful Halloween, Pretty Spooky!

Welcome to the 3rd Crafty Ribbons Challenge! I am this challenge's hostess and the theme is

When I was gearing up for this week's challenge, I just knew I wanted to use a bunch of Crafty Ribbon's Halloween ribbons to make a hairbow inspired by "the homecoming bow" on the Sweetpeas and Kisses blog. For this pony tail hair bow I attached 2 4-loop tails-down bows to a bundle of tails and a 2-loop tails-down bow. I completed the ribbon by adding some Crafty Ribbons buttons layered on top. The directions to folding the tails-down bows are at Sweetpeas and Kisses website...The ribbon of course is at non-other than Crafty Ribbons website!

Festive Friday Blog Hop #9 | Holly Jolly Reindeer

Holly Jolly Reindeer

For this diecut reindeer card, I used the Bigz Sizzix die Animal Dressups Reindeer in my Big Shot Express. I made the card hinged by folding the cardstock and diecuting just inside the top edge of the dies on its antlers. I used the big Bazzill Brads for his eyes in white and the red for his nose. To accent the eyes, I used BIC Mark-its. The holly buttons are some old Making Memories buttons from my stash and the ribbon is $1 bin ribbon from Target! I accented the reindeer with penstitching and Ceramcoat gleams.

This is a great kid's card and I made a less blingy version for a benefit card drive that friends and family did last fall for Operation Write Home--an organization that sends cards to the military that they can then in turn send home to their families! It's a wonderful organization and I'm proud to be a part of their work. To learn more about Operation Write Home, click here.
