leslierahye's International Fairy Day Blog Hop | Introduction

Happy International Fairy Day Everyone! Welcome to my 2nd annual Blog Hop celebrating this fantastic occasion! This blog hop is dedicated to all things Fairy! I am often asked where did International Fairy Day began? This quote from FaeNation sums it up:
"The most important day in the calendar, June 24th – this day is the second ever International Fairy Day. Founded by artist Jessica Galbreth, Fairy Day is a holiday for believers, collectors and the young at heart to celebrate all that is Fae and reconnect with their imagination and child-like wonder. It is the perfect day to glamour bomb, make a fairy altar, take a walk in unspoilt countryside or even just reread your favourite fairy books. See the Fairy Day website for more ideas."
I have collected some of my favorite bloggers and crafters to join me in this fun celebration! I hope you enjoy the projects we've done. Below you will find a list of bloggers..be sure to hop from project to project--the list is on everyone's blog to help you. My personal project will be at the end of the hop! There is a sparkly package available as a prize for one lucky commentator--all you must do is comment on each blogger's post...please comment here for Miss Jillian. Now on to the celebration...
***
Let's begin with Miss Jillian, age 7. Jillian asked if she could join my hop because she loves fairies so much and had made a Fairy Sock Puppet that she wanted to share! How could we resist!!

from Jillian:
Karla the Sock Puppet was made from a tube sock. I added green pom-poms for eyes. The wings I cut from purple construction paper and white paper. I took two clothes pins for the hands so Karla can hold her wand. I colored her cloths with Bic Mark-its and I added pipe cleaners for her hair and feet.
Thank you Ms. Leslie for letting me join your fairy hop I love fairies.
Jillian

Great Job Jillian!

Hop on over to the other stops and show them some love! I have a sparkly prize and great offer to share! Happy International Fairy Day!!

Wrapped Up with Altered Pages

A few weeks ago I asked Jean about these amazing Sari Silk ribbons that she got for the store. I had been inspired by some beautiful creations that an online friend does with ribbons, fibers, beads and such. I wanted to create a wrapped bracelet my style! with some beautiful remnants [I LOVE upcycling], some altering with my favorite alcohol ink markers, and of course beads and charms. I hope you enjoy!

Along with the gorgeous Sari Silk Ribbons, Jean sent these fabulous charms and beads. they are a great silvery-pewter color which makes them PERFECT for coloring with my Spectrum Noir pens. They make it easy to make your accessories match your ribbons.

Figure out the length of your wrap up by wrapping an length of beads [loosely strung], or your ribbon around your wrist 4-5 times. You then can thread your beads onto one or both of the Sari ribbons...knots can help beads from slipping. wrap your beads loosely around the ribbons and attach each end with wrapping smaller thread tightly around the grouping.

You can incorporate findings into the ends to help "close" your wrap up or your can tie it in a loose knot [so that it can be removed later]. I love how my AlteredPages.com goodies look with some of my favorite beads. I hope this inspires you to try to make your own!

A farewell to Viva Las VegaStamps!

Hello everyone! Today is my last post with Viva Las VegaStamps! I've been with the team for two terms and wanted to take this opportunity to allow new blood to join the team and to explore some new projects for myself--there are only so many hours in the day! I love Viva Las VegaStamps! and will continue to enjoy their unique and varied brand of rubber! For my final project I wanted to create for you an ATC that not only followed my "one little word" personal journey this year, but also focused on one of my most favorite "blooms."
Dandelions have always been in my top 5 favorite flowers and this year I have found some MAMMOTH ones nearby. I took the opportunity to photograph them last month and got this fabulous shot of the seed head close up! That becomes one of the layers of my trading card.

For this project you will need
 Blowing Dandelion and Extra Seed by Susan M. Brown 2 x 3 1/2 and 3/4 x 3/4.
Make A Wish 3/4 x 2 1/4
Memento Ink
Brilliance Ink
rope trim/bakers twine
Specimen Bottle
Foam Tape
bling
photograph
fresh wishes

begin by procuring some fresh wishes.
Tie rope twin to neck of bottle.
trim out photograph for focal piece.
Stamp with dandelion stamp & Make a Wish
Edge the photograph
Add focal piece to an ATC sized cardboard
that has been stenciled. Attach with foam tape.
Poke holes through ATC to attach specimen
bottle full of wishes to ATC with Baker's Twine.
Dot your "i" with a piece of bling!
Thank you Viva Las VegaStamps for this amazing journey!

Celebrate America with Viva Las VegaStamps!

Summer unofficially has started where I am...school is out, the temperature is getting H O T and it is the season of flags. From Memorial Day to Labor Day these next 3 months are full or red-white-blue flag-waving opportunities for my family and I love it! This is probably the time of the year that I am most emotional about the freedoms that have been afforded us by the lives and duties of others.
Viva Las VegaStamps has a plethora of stamps that could be used to celebrate America. I think my favorite are the photo stamps that look like vintage posters. They are simply gorgeous. For my tag today  I selected a stamp that has a collage of fireworks, the American flag, the statue of liberty and the rotunda of classic American architecture.
I've paired this beautiful stamp--which happens to be the perfect size for an ATC also--with upholstery remnants, May Arts ribbons and trim and some metal  embellishments. Miracle Tape adhered the paper to the fabric snuggly and Distress Ink colored the stamp to give that vintage feel! I hope you enjoy my tag! Thank you for stopping by!
If you love Viva Las VegaStamps and want to have over 19,000 images at your fingertips to express you passion, remember that the Design Team Call has been extended to Friday!! You can't make the team if you don't try out! Good Luck!
